I thought it would be a good resource to have videos of all of us practicing/competing in one place. And I don't know about you guys but I really enjoy watching video, so any new videos to watch is always a plus for me.

For me here is my profile on youtube

Offseason at Beineke S&C

Tue, 11/04/2008 - 13:19
I put up a post in my semi pro football message board advertising my offseason program for semi pro players. It has a lot of pictures and videos from last off seasons group. Some of the highlights include a 545 pound squat by one of the linemen.

Take a look:

Wrist Pain(shotput)

Tue, 11/04/2008 - 00:11
So I've always taped my wrist since I've become serious about throwing and never had any issues. When I switched over to the 16lb shotput last year I had some wrist pain but with some Duct tape all was good. This year my hands/wrists are stronger. But after a couple weeks of consistent shotput throwing getting ready for indoors I am unable to do a full throw. No matter how much I tape my wrist when my wrist is extended it hurts, doesnt really matter how much pressure is on it, even just bending my hand to put the shot against my neck. The pain is on the thumb side of my wrist on the back and side of wrist flexion.

Any advice?

Bo taylors 130kg snatch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnJ5WAl-KuQ

495 bench from there Shot putter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llxunL2-fPo and his 745 squat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjAl7KOuBrY

Some good technique, the weight program they have over that at UCLA must be pretty good to produce mid 700 squatters for there senior throwers.

Edit: if you want post videos of throwers moving big weight, either pro, college, or high school

Need new hammer shoe for training

Thu, 10/16/2008 - 02:54
I was using a addidstar throwing shoe in past but its been run down pretty good-was really cheap like 30 bucks- I'm looking for a new good shoe specifically for hammer as the addidstar is still ok right now for shot training and discus training but hammer getting around is sloppy and not smooth.

I have a fairly big foot, size 14. I'm not a super fast hammer thrower this will be my second season and just starting up again, my pr with 16 with one spin is 144feet in practice and 136 in meet. I'm now doing 2 spins for form and eventually 3 spin as max since 4 spin is tough as taller person, so don't need a super slick shoe. Just need a solid shoe better suited for hammer that I can get many reps in. So any hammer throwers out there with some good recommendations?

Rest between sprint sessions?

Wed, 09/17/2008 - 13:46
I want to start doing some sprints along with lifting and finally throwing as of next week.

I been reading around and asking coaches ect and they all have differnt views on rest between sessions... I was thinking of 2 sessions a week(tuesday and friday) but some say this is not enough, some say 1x a week is too much... sprints will be between 10m and 100m MAX

My schedule will be
lifting 2x week
throw 2-3x week
sprint ????

what do you guys think? 1, 2, 3 days a week?

*Im not a complete noob to sprints, had some experience with them in the past*

Jurgen Schult Discus Training Tool

Sun, 09/14/2008 - 08:43
http://www.vsathletics.com/product.php?xProd=453&xSec=78 so I'm going to be buying one of these since I have heard its a pretty good accessory to work on discus and its relatively cheap. I'm a fan of training with heavier implements so thats another reason why I would like to get it. I know some of you are against it, yet some throwers have trained with heavier implements like hammers and shots and have benefited from it. I have used 20lb hammer in training before and I felt it helped a lot-also provides good workout using heavier implement-

I throw the 2k discus, so wondering if I should go with the heavier option which is 3.4kg or the 2.65kg?

Also anyone use this and what do you think of it?

World Athletic Final

Thu, 09/11/2008 - 19:53
Interested to see what happens at this meet.

-Due to Alekna's advancing years, Kanter's your disc favorite...

-IMO Cantwell is the favorite in the shot. He just threw 70'+ a few days ago at a meet, beating Majewski who "only" managed a 68' toss. My suspicion is that without being in 100% peak condition, Majewski will have trouble duplicating his olympic throw, while Cantwell can go 69'-70' any time any place.

Congrats to Kanter. Not taking anything away from him, but it looks like father time had a bigger hand in knocking Alekna off his perch than Kanter did.

Gold for USA finally!!

Bench press vs. Jerk for rotational shot

Sun, 08/17/2008 - 16:05
I was wondering what was your guys opinions on the bench press and the jerk. Which do you prefer?

For being a rotational shotputter weighing 255lbs. and only having a 300lb. bench, I am very weak in this lift but I have a very strong overhead press of 285lbs. But hearing from other elite throwers such as hoffa, nelson, and cantwell, you never hear of them speak of there olympic lifts. But they all do have a strong bench.

So my question is what do guys recomend for helping a weak bench presser?

and should I be more focused on improving the bench or the overhead / jerk?
